We take the protection of your personal data seriously. This policy explains which data is processed when you visit this website, for what purpose, and on what legal basis.

In short
This website sets no advertising cookies and embeds no social media plugins. We use Google Analytics to measure reach, but only if you explicitly agree in the cookie notice. If you decline, or simply do not answer, no connection to Google is made at all. We do not sell your data and do not pass it on for advertising purposes.
Server log files
When you open a page, your browser transmits technically necessary data that our web server records: IP address, date and time, the address requested, the amount of data transferred, the referrer, and your browser and operating system identification.
Purpose: secure and stable operation of the website and defence against attacks. The legal basis is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Logs are deleted after 14 days at the latest and are not combined with other data.
Contact form
If you write to us through the contact form, we process the details you enter — name, email address and message — solely in order to answer your enquiry. The message is delivered to us by email; the form content is not stored permanently in the website database.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR (responding to your enquiry). We keep the correspondence for as long as it takes to deal with your request and any follow-up, then delete it, unless statutory retention obligations apply.
Spam protection without a captcha: instead of a captcha we check whether an invisible extra field was filled in, how much time passed between opening and submitting the form, and how many messages recently came from the same connection. For the last check we store your IP address only as a non-reversible hash together with a timestamp. These entries are deleted automatically after 24 hours. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in preventing abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Cookies and local storage
Until you agree to the cookie notice, this website sets no cookies.
Two technically necessary entries sit in your browser's local storage and session storage — these are not cookies and are never transmitted to us: your answer to the cookie notice (so we do not ask again on every page), and a note that the welcome overlay on the home page has already been shown. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
If you consent to analytics, Google Analytics additionally sets the cookies _ga and _ga_<ID>, with a lifetime of up to two years. They recognise returning browsers without identifying you by name.
A further cookie is set only in the protected editorial area, when a member of our team signs in. It serves the sign-in alone and holds no analytics data.
Reach measurement (Google Analytics 4)
We would like to know which content gets read and how people find us. For that we use Google Analytics 4 (provider: Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland).
None of this happens without your consent. The analytics code is loaded only after you click “Accept” in the cookie notice. Until then — and permanently, if you decline — not a single request is sent to Google. Google's Consent Mode v2 is additionally set to “denied” by default.
What is processed includes the pages you open, time spent, approximate location derived from a truncated IP address, device type, browser, and where the visit came from. Google truncates the IP address and does not store it permanently. Transfer to Google LLC in the USA cannot be ruled out; Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 165(3) TKG 2021). You can withdraw that consent at any time with effect for the future — via the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page. Withdrawing is exactly as easy as agreeing.

Fonts
The “Montserrat” typeface we use is hosted on our own server and delivered from there. No connection to Google Fonts is made, and your IP address is not passed to any third party for it.
Donations via PayPal
The “Get Involved” page offers a PayPal donation button. A connection to PayPal is established only once you actively click that button. From that point the PayPal privacy policy applies (PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., Luxembourg): paypal.com. Payment data is processed by PayPal alone; we do not receive it.
Social media
Our footer links to our profiles on Facebook and Instagram. These are plain links — no content from those networks is embedded, and simply opening our pages transmits no data to them.
Processors
To run the website we rely on carefully selected service providers with whom data processing agreements are in place: a hosting provider with servers located in the European Union, and an email delivery provider through which contact form messages are sent.
Your rights
You have the right at any time to information about the data we hold about you, and to rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection to processing. Any consent you have given — for example to reach measurement — can be withdrawn at any time with effect for the future, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out until then. Please contact office@lios-soil.org.
If you believe the processing of your data breaches data protection law, you may lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority: dsb.gv.at.
Changes
We update this policy when the website or the legal situation changes. The version published here is the one that applies.
